Simon Fuller

 

Identifying Simon Fuller.

 

Simon Fuller (born 17 May 1960) is an English entrepreneur, artist manager, film and television producer (en.wikipedia.org., 2018). He started his career in the music business as a publisher and A&R man, and in 1985, at the age of 25, took on the management of Paul Hardcastle, who hit number one with '19'. The song gave Fuller the title of his company, 19 Entertainment (theguardian.com, 2008).

 

Experience in negotiations and business.

 

Fuller is best known for being the creator of the Idol franchise and includes American Idol in the U.S. He has managed a wide range of talent including Spice Girls, David and Victoria Beckham, Annie Lennox, Steven Tyler, Amy Winehouse, Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson among others. He is also the executive producer of hit shows and films including So You Think You Can Dance, Q'Viva, Spiceworld The Movie, My Generation starring Michael Caine and others (en.wikipedia.org., 2018).

 

Three questions or topics that I would want to discuss with Simon Fuller.

1.- Typically, a manager will take 15% of an artist’s gross, or if they’re an established manager working with a new act that will require a lot of up-front work, they may take 20% (careersinmusic.com,2018). You, as a recognized and successful person in the industry, negotiate another type of commission or you apply the standards of the industry? Why?

 

2.- You have been described by Prince Charles as a genius of creativity and marketing (Turner, 2011). During a negotiation process, what has more weight, your creativity or the way in which you have marketed yourself?

 

3.- What is your communication style? Can you adapt your style to achieve a better understanding between the parties?

 

Explain why you chose this person.

 

I chose this person because of his versatility and experience as an entrepreneur in the entertainment business. Fuller has not only managed singers but also composers, football players, tennis players, models, TV presenters, actors, and actresses. All of them of renowned trajectory. He is also responsible for the creation and production of tv shows whose successes have produced billions of dollars for the industry.
